TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Han Kuo-yu secured the position of speaker in Taiwan's Legislative Yuan on Thursday (Feb. 1), with Johnny Chiang appointed as his deputy.

Han's role as speaker involves maintaining legislative order and overseeing matters in the parliament.

His salary, set by the "Act Governing the Discipline of Legislators," is NT$346,960 per month, equivalent to the pay of central government department heads, plus a special remuneration of NT$79,100 monthly.

Deputy speaker Johnny Chiang will receive a monthly salary of about NT$229,860. The average legislator's salary is around NT$190,500 per month, matching that of ministry heads, and includes an annual bonus of 1.5 months' salary.

In his new role, Han will play a crucial role in resolving legislative disputes and tied votes, positioning him significantly in shaping Taiwan's future policies.
