TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced in a city council meeting on Wednesday (Feb. 7) that ticket prices for the Taipei Zoo would increase from April 1.

Currently, the standard entrance price is NT$60, while discounted tickets are NT$30. However, from April 1, the price for non-Taipei residents will adjust to NT$100 per ticket, and student discounts, regardless of their residency, will be raised to NT$50. Children under 12 and the elderly from Taipei continue to have free admission. For group tickets, organizations purchasing for more than 30 people will enjoy a preferential ticket price of NT$70 per person.

Serving the city since 1997 without altering its entrance fees, Taipei Zoo revealed that revenue from the increased prices will contribute to improved animal welfare initiatives. Taipei Zoo director Chen I-tsung said that the price adjustment is expected to increase the city's revenue by about NT$41 million.

Recently, the Taipei Zoo underwent a professional evaluation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, with assessment categories including animal welfare, medical services, visitor services, and staff safety. Funds raised from the revised ticketing will be channeled primarily towards enhancing animal welfare and strengthening international relations and exchanges.
