TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus whip, Ker Chien-ming, on Thursday (Feb. 15) urged the Kuomintang (KMT) not to overly pursue showmanship in response to their request to hold an extraordinary session at the Legislative Yuan on Saturday (Feb. 17).

Ker emphasized that extraordinary sessions are usually convened during recess periods, adding that there is no need to hold an additional meeting, as the new session of the Legislative Yuan formally began on Feb. 1.

The KMT caucus had called for an early meeting and invited Premier Chen Chien-jen to give a special report on the issue of Cimbuterol being detected in Taisugar's sliced pork.

If the session does not proceed as planned, they intend to hinder the first briefing of the new administration's policies.

The consumer focus on food safety has gradually intensified following the discovery of Cimbuterol in Taisugar's sliced pork.

Intending to tackle this issue, the KMT caucus will propose a related motion in the Legislative Yuan and convene an extraordinary session on Feb. 17. They warned any delay could obstruct the inaugural policy address.

Meanwhile, Ker revealed that to convene an extraordinary session, the KMT's Han Kuo-yu must first hold party group consultations.

Ker suggested that as soon as that's done, then Premier Chen could be invited to provide a "food safety special report" on Feb. 20.
