TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu announced on Friday (Feb. 16) that he will convene a cross-party meeting on Monday (Feb. 19) to discuss a food safety report proposal presented by Premier Chen Chien-jen.
Han received a letter from the Kuomintang (KMT) legislative party asking to discuss plans to invite Chen for a report and review on food safety issues under the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) eight-year tenure.
Han, in a message to media groups, said he would receive Chen at the Legislative Yuan on Saturday to further express the public's concerns about food safety.
Expectations are that the first session of the 11th legislative term will begin on Feb. 20, with Chen and heads of all departments invited for a policy briefing and an inquiry session.
KMT caucus deputy Secretary-General Lin Szu-ming hopes to nail down the report date within the coming week, which could be Feb. 20, 21, or 23.
DPP caucus secretary-general Wu Szu-yao said they are willing to comply with Han's consultation notice, adding that the food safety report has always been a key issue for the DPP.
The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) also expressed support for the food safety report.
