TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced on Monday (Feb. 19) that it has detected seven instances of Chinese military planes and seven naval vessels active around the Taiwan Strait in the 24 hours leading up to 6 a.m.
In a statement released earlier that day, the MND noted that the detection occurred between 6 a.m. yesterday to 6 a.m. today, with one of the Chinese aircraft entering Taiwan's southwestern air defense identification zone.
Explicitly, the MND highlighted using military aircraft, naval vessels, and land-based air defense missiles to monitor and respond to these activities strictly.
This announcement follows a period of increased tension between the People's Republic of China and the self-governing island of Taiwan.
