TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Government's Department of Health announced on Monday (Feb. 19) a significant increase in the number of free senior health checks for 2024, expanding the slots to 66,000.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Feb. 22, online registration will be opened for special groups of elderly citizens including the physically and mentally disabled, pan-ethnic elders aged over 55, and those living alone or with low income.

Meanwhile, online scheduling will be available for the remaining senior citizens on March 4.

Chen Yen-yuan, director of the health department, said this year's elderly health check-up has been redesigned.

The new regimen includes previously offered neuro-pulmonary and abdominal ultrasonic packages, and a new package examining bone density and muscle strength, he noted.

Chen added that the number of health care institutions providing elderly health services has increased to 61 this year, including 30 hospitals and 31 clinics.

They will provide services to a total of 66,040 patients, up from last year's 50,503, which Chen encouraged older citizens to take full advantage of the services.

In addition, the health department further encouraged seniors to use the preventive health services subsidized annually by the Health Promotion Administration for all citizens aged 65 and over.
