TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te are scheduled to meet with chairman of the U.S. Select Committee on the CCP Mike Gallagher and a visiting delegation Thursday (Feb. 22) at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.

Representative Mike Gallagher and the bipartisan heavyweights he leads will discuss Taiwan-U.S. trade and the Indo-Pacific regional situation.

The delegation led by Gallagher, includes leading Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, John Moolenaar, Seth Moulton, and Dusty Johnson, and will stay in Taiwan from Feb. 22 to Feb. 24.

Gallagher, Krishnamoorthi, Moolenaar, and Moulton had previously met President Tsai during a layover in Los Angeles in April 2019 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.

The "Ten for Taiwan," a set of policy recommendations to support Taiwan, was presented last year by the U.S. special committee.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Congress has also been aiding Taiwan in strengthening its self-defense capability with legislation like the "National Defense Authorization Act."

After Taiwan's presidential election, Gallagher and Krishnamoorthi were among the first to issue a joint statement congratulating Taiwan on completing a free and fair election. The visit to Taiwan demonstrates the unwavering bipartisan support from the U.S. Congress.

The two sides hope they can continue deepening exchanges and cooperation to maintain peace and prosperity through a stable Indo-Pacific region and uphold democratic freedoms.
