TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) revealed Thursday, Feb. 22, that authorities have completed the legal investigation into the Kinmen speedboat case and determined that there was no need or reason to detain the two Chinese survivors and have repatriated them based on human rights protection.

MAC released the statement in response to public queries regarding the rapid repatriation of the two men and whether the relevant authorities have completed the relevant procedures.

MAC stated that the Fuchien Kinmen District Prosecutors Office and the Coast Guard Administration have explained the repatriation process for the two surviving individuals involved.

The two survivors have completed witness testimony procedures along with detention and investigation procedures. On the afternoon of Feb. 20, they returned to China by boat through the mini-three-links.

The boat capsizing incident on Feb. 14 involved a pursuit by the Coast Guard Administration of a speedboat, carrying four persons illegally crossing the border in Kinmen waters, resulting in two deaths. The boat had neither a name nor certificates of registration.
