TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan technology companies will be out in force at MWC Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024, the world's largest global telecom industry event, taking place from February 26 to 29.

With Generative AI set to be one of the show's major themes, MediaTek will be demonstrating its latest SoC (System-on-Chip) solutions that enable smartphones to run AI applications such as real-time transcription and translations on the device without having to access the cloud.

Recent announcements that the company has integrated native support for Meta's Llama 2 and Google's Gemini Nano LLMs on its existing MediaTek 8300 and 9300 chips show MediaTek's growing momentum in this new market.

Also, 5G will be under the spotlight at MCW 2024, with announcements expected around 5G-Advanced, the next edition of the 3GGP 5G standard, which is expected to arrive in the summer of this year.

The key benefits being touted for the technology include higher uplink speeds for large data workloads such as video surveillance, better support for IoT, and more reliable connectivity for industrial control devices and vehicles.

A scaled-up cloud and edge infrastructure will be essential for telecom providers and enterprises to take full advantage of the latest advances in 5G technology.

Top Taiwan technology manufacturers, including Quanta, Gigabyte, Asus, Acer, Lite-On, and Wiwynn, will be demonstrating how they can accelerate this process with a wide range of smart infrastructure solutions for applications such as private 5G networks and AI servers and accelerators for datacenters.

At the dedicated Taiwan Pavilion supported by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA), Ministry of Economic Affairs, an additional 15 Taiwan companies, including D-Link, Nexcom, and Alpha Networks, will showcase their 5G and Open RAN hardware, software, and networking solutions for commercial deployment.

Following the recent launch of the Apple Vision Pro, immersive VR, AR, and mixed-reality technologies are set to attract attention at MWC 2024. To showcase the huge potential of these rapidly developing technologies for enterprise, education, and consumer use cases, HTC will demonstrate its latest hardware and software innovations, including its flagship HTC VIVE Focus 3 VR device.

With over 2,400 exhibitors and 109,000 visitors to the event, MWC 2024 provides the ideal platform for highlighting Taiwan's increasingly significant role in driving the future development of the global telecom industry and generating significant new business opportunities for the island's technology industry.
