TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je announced on Friday (March 1) that the party's primary concern is the passage of priority bills in the legislative yuan; thus, the TPP will collaborate with the Kuomintang (KMT) in this initial stage.

Despite rumors that the KMT would let the TPP take the lead in the presiding committee of the Legislative Yuan, all eight delegates from the TPP supported the KMT's nominees during yesterday's committee elections.

When asked about the committee elections, the TPP expressed respect for the KMT's decision.

Ko underlined that the main concern of the TPP at this stage is the priority bills, including those about parliament, judiciary, and media reform.

He said initial cooperation with the KMT is necessary to ensure the passage of such bills. The TPP will give priority to passing these bills while respecting the KMT's decisions during the presiding committee elections, Ko remarked.

Ko also proposed the establishment of a "Grassroots Cafe," to be operated by party supporters.

While the TPP will merely provide a venue for the cafe, its creation has drawn criticism for a potential breach of the Political Parties Act.

Ko refuted these allegations, insisting that political parties themselves are not allowed to profit from business ventures.
