TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Yaw-shyang, commissioner of the National Communications Commission (NCC), faced a skeptical legislature Monday (March 11), as he was accused of submitting a stale report for review.

Lawmakers criticized the document for its similarity to last year's report.

Taiwan People's Party (TPP) legislator Lin Kuo-cheng noted that of the report's 13,000 words, over 9,000 shared with the previous year's. Doubts over the Mandarin language competency of NCC officials were also raised.

Huang Chien-hao of the Kuomintang (KMT) criticized the report as vague, noting that "Even the renewal content is not included, only the entire text of the clauses are put up," and provided specific examples of insufficient content in the report.

Meanwhile, there were calls for the NCC to rewrite the report, but Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Lee Kun-tse argued that a meeting without a submitted report would lack purpose.

Chen, ahead of the meeting, defended the report, stating that as a supervisory body, the NCC has many continuously ongoing matters, thus some information might recur in the report. He also revealed recent establishment aspects such as the Internet Broadcasting Office.

Concerning the recent proposal for NCC Deputy Director Wong Po-tsung to take over as chairman in the next term, Chen said such personnel issues are decided by the legislature's speaker, and declined further comment.
