Taiwan’s parties to revisit legislative amendments

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's political parties reached a consensus on Thursday (June 13) to reconsider the legislative amendments proposed by the Executive Yuan.

The discussions, led by Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), aimed to address the Executive Yuan's reconsideration proposals concerning the Law Governing the Legislative Yuan's Power (立法院職權行使法) and amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of China.

After nearly two hours of negotiations, the ruling and opposition parties agreed to convene a full committee session on June 19 and 20. Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) is scheduled to attend and clarify the Executive Yuan's stance. The vote on the reconsideration proposals is set for June 21.

The committee will scrutinize the reconsideration proposals, with representatives from the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨團), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨團), and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨團) participating in the questioning.

Each member will have 10 minutes to inquire, ensuring a thorough examination of the proposals. The list of speakers, managed by the legislative office (議事處), must be submitted by noon on June 18.

The final vote on June 21 will involve a roll-call voting method, with each proposal requiring a separate ballot. Representatives from each party will oversee the voting process, underscoring the importance of transparency and fairness in this legislative endeavor.
