TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Matt Pottinger presented his latest book, "The Boiling Moat: Urgent Steps to Defend Taiwan," to Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Thursday (June 13).

The book gifting took place amid discussions on deepening economic and trade relations between Taiwan and the U.S. to reach new heights in trade development.

During the meeting with Pottinger and Ivan Kanapathy, the White House's National Security Council staff deputy senior director for Asian affairs, President Lai emphasized Taiwan's commitment to deepening relationships with democratic partners.

He highlighted the collective effort to ensure the security of supply chains in the face of authoritarian expansion. Lai specifically mentioned the need for Taiwan and the United States to further enhance their economic and trade relations to promote bilateral trade growth.

Pottinger, in his remarks, stressed that Taiwan's security is crucial not only for the U.S. but also for Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and other countries worldwide.

He underscored the principle that "strength brings peace" and expressed confidence in Taiwan's ability to effectively deter aggression from neighboring countries.

This meeting and book presentation underscore the global community's recognition of Taiwan's strategic importance and the urgent need for concerted actions to defend its sovereignty.
