TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Consumer Protection Committee of the Executive Yuan revealed on Friday (June 21) that four out of 24 tested household rubber and plastic gloves contained excessive levels of plasticizers, leading to a recall by manufacturers. These products were tested between late February and early March this year.

The Committee highlighted concerns about heavy metals used to brighten colors and plasticizers added for flexibility in these gloves. Liang Ming-tsun (梁明圳), an officer at the Consumer Protection Committee, described plasticizers as environmental hormones that could disrupt endocrine balance and function. He warned that prolonged exposure might result in feminization in boys, early puberty in girls, and a higher breast cancer risk in women.

Liang also pointed out that these products are not currently subject to mandatory testing. Consequently, the Ministry of Economic Affairs Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection has compelled manufacturers to recall the affected products under the Consumer Protection Act (消費者保護法).

More importantly, the committee found that five items did not meet labeling standards, including omissions of production dates, missing Chinese labels, and unclear manufacturer identification, all of which have now been corrected.
