TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) on Wednesday (June 26) emphasized the benefits of mutual understanding between people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) was responding to Taiwanese YouTuber Potter King (波特王), who expressed concerns that inviting Taiwanese YouTubers to mainland China for travel and filming might lead to cultural unification. The proposal has sparked mixed reactions among YouTubers, some distancing themselves while others acknowledged receiving invitations.

Zhu highlighted Potter King's previous visits to China, noting they were positive exchanges and travel experiences. She encouraged him to continue bringing positive energy to China. In her press conference remarks, Zhu mentioned the popularity of videos by foreign bloggers under China's 144-hour visa-free policy, with views exceeding 1 billion. She clarified that Taiwanese citizens could travel even more conveniently to China using a Taiwan compatriot permit, underscoring the extensive sharing of experiences by Taiwanese media personalities on platforms like YouTube and Xiaohongshu.

Zhu asserted the importance of fostering understanding and dissolving misconceptions between the straits. She warned against baseless accusations and intimidation within the media community, stating that such behavior would not garner support from either side of the strait. Zhu's comments underscored a commitment to welcoming positive contributions while discouraging divisive rhetoric.
