TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weather expert warned on Monday (July 1) that 15 counties and cities across Taiwan will face high temperatures due to the influence of the southwest wind, with the possibility of local, brief thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Lin Te-en (林得恩) pointed out that yesterday's highest temperature was recorded in Taitung Taimali (臺東太麻里), reaching 41.0 degrees Celsius, setting the record for the highest temperature in Taiwan this year. Taipei Shilin (台北士林) followed with a high of 39.1 degrees Celsius.

He predicted that due to the influence of the southwest wind and the Pacific high pressure, high temperatures will continue for the next week, with high heat conditions every day.

Taipei City (臺北市), Taoyuan City (桃園市), Hsinchu County (新竹縣), Taichung City (臺中市), Changhua County (彰化縣), Nantou County (南投縣), Yunlin County (雲林縣), Tainan City (臺南市), Pingtung County (屏東縣), and Taitung County (臺東縣) are all under orange alert, indicating a high probability of continuous temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, New Taipei City (新北市), Hsinchu City (新竹市), Miaoli County (苗栗縣), Chiayi City (嘉義市), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), and Kaohsiung City (高雄市) are under yellow alert.
