TAIPEI (TVBS News) — June marked the traditional sales peak for Taiwan's car market, with manufacturers rolling out extensive promotional offers. The total number of vehicles registered hit 41,587, a slight increase of 0.3% from the previous month but a decrease of 1.9% from last year. The year's first half saw 232,503 vehicles registered, aligning with expectations.

Luxury brands, led by Tesla's surge in deliveries, recorded a historic high in June. Tesla alone registered 3,898 vehicles, securing second place in the month's registration numbers. Lexus, Benz, and BMW followed, with luxury cars making up 33.1% of the market — a record high. Imported cars also surpassed domestic ones, accounting for 51.7% of the market.

Hotai Motors, the leading car manufacturer, projects July's market to slightly dip to 42,000 units, a 1% decrease from last year. Hotai's Toyota and Lexus brands aim for a combined target of 15,300 units, approximately 36.4% of the market share. Despite the steady performance in June, with Toyota and Lexus registering 12,317 units, the influx of luxury brands has impacted their market share, which stood at 29.6%.

Hotai anticipates a boost in July sales, driven by ongoing promotional efforts and the continuous arrival of imported vehicles. Toyota offers substantial incentives for specific models until the end of July, propelling sales further. Despite a stable market in June, Toyota saw a 3.4% increase in registrations, with the Corolla Cross and RAV4 leading the market.
