TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) warned on Tuesday (July 2) of high chances of afternoon thunderstorms across Taiwan, with sporadic showers in the central and southern regions during the morning.

The administration cautioned the public to be vigilant of severe weather phenomena such as short-term heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and strong gusts of wind.

The weather administration also noted that temperatures would remain high over the next two days, with most regions experiencing temperatures between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius.

There is a chance that some areas in the central and southern parts of the island could reach 37 degrees. The administration urged people to take precautions against the sun and stay hydrated to prevent heat injuries.

The weather fan page "WeatherRisk" (天氣風險) also advised residents to carry rain gear due to the influence of a high-pressure system's southern winds. The system could trigger afternoon thunderstorms in mountainous regions and the greater Taipei area.

"WeatherRisk" explained that the center of the Pacific high-pressure system would gradually move towards the sea surface near the Ryukyu islands in the next two days, bringing it closer to Taiwan. This shift would likely reduce afternoon thunderstorms and further increase temperatures after Thursday.

It predicted that the high-pressure system would slightly weaken by Sunday, leading to more afternoon thunderstorms and a slight drop in temperatures.
