KINMEN (TVBS News) — Kinmen County's Public Health Bureau announced on Tuesday that it had received a report of a possible food poisoning incident affecting 24 tourists after a dinner on June 30. Five individuals sought emergency treatment at Kinmen Hospital on Monday (July 1).

The bureau immediately launched an investigation, collecting environmental and food residue samples from the restaurant where the tourists dined. The tourists, who had been visiting Kinmen County since June 29, were discharged from the hospital the following morning and returned to Taiwan proper in the afternoon.

In addition to investigating the primary restaurant, the bureau inspected two other dining establishments visited by the group. Multiple violations were found, including improper food storage and inadequate pest control. Notices were issued to these restaurants to make necessary improvements within a specified period or face severe penalties including fines and potential shutdowns.

Bureau director Tsai Chien-hsin clarified the criteria for food poisoning cases, emphasizing the seriousness of symptoms linked to botulinum toxin or acute poisoning. The bureau continues to monitor the situation and investigate the cause of the illness.
