TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) clarified on Tuesday (July 2) that his comments about using data of single or married couples without children to promote incentive policies were misunderstood due to their brevity. He stressed his suggestions did not exceed the scope of ongoing work.

During the 2024 National Household Registration Day event (全國戶政日活動), Premier Cho suggested that household registration units could cross-check data of unmarried youths and married couples without children to promote incentive policies. He emphasized treating the low birthrate issue as a national security concern for research and assistance.

Before a Legislative Yuan session on Tuesday, Cho addressed the media, noting that his remarks at the previous day's award ceremony might have caused some misunderstandings due to time constraints. Premier Cho attended an award ceremony a day earlier, where one of the awards was for outstanding measures in population policy.

He encouraged the attendees and emphasized that a robust household registration system could effectively assist the government in population planning. He further expressed his hope to enhance and accurately assist staff through various technologies, directly strengthening the promotion of policies and incentive measures.

Cho reiterated that his suggestions did not exceed the scope of current ongoing work.
