TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Formosan sika deer (梅花鹿) appeared in a Taipei MRT (台北捷運) passageway on Saturday (July 6), captivating passersby. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (台北捷運公司) reminded the public of its pet transport rules, which require pets to be in cages with no limbs protruding. Small pet carriers ride free, while large ones need an NT$80 ticket.

The deer, an internet celebrity named Lupin (鹿平), was spotted in the MRT passageway after attending a pet exhibition held in Nangang Exhibition Hall 1 (南港展覽館1館). Despite being off-leash, Lupin obediently followed its owner down the stairs.

Lupin's owner later apologized on social media for not using a leash in the city, explaining they were heading home and did not intend to ride the MRT. The Taipei City Animal Protection Office (台北市動保處) cited local animal protection laws requiring pets to be leashed or caged in public spaces. Violations can result in fines ranging from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000.

Authorities will investigate the incident and enforce penalties if necessary. This event highlights the importance of following pet transport regulations in public areas to ensure safety and compliance.
