TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) announced Tuesday (July 9) that the No. 47 Wan An Exercise (萬安47號演習) will take place from July 22 to 25, in conjunction with the Han Kuang Exercise (漢光演習). This drill aims to enhance Taiwan's preparedness against missile and rocket attacks.

During a press conference, the MND revealed plans to issue air threat alerts for specific regions in Taiwan, including a new feature that provides maps of nearby shelters.

Chu Sen-tsuen (朱森村), director of the MND's Manpower Mobilization Division at the All-out Defense Mobilization (全民防衛動員署), explained that the Wan An Exercise will coordinate with the Han Kuang live-fire drills, conducted in a phased manner across central, northern, eastern, and southern regions, as well as offshore islands.

Chu detailed that each region will receive alerts, conduct evacuations, and enforce traffic controls from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the exercise.

Following the all-clear signal, local governments and civil defense teams will set up wartime disaster relief stations and conduct rescue drills from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The air threat alert system will also send mobile alerts with the message, "Air Defense Drill, Incoming missile/rocket threat. Seek immediate shelter," including a link to nearby shelter maps.

The MND urged drivers to remain calm and follow traffic rules and the instructions of police and civil defense personnel during the alerts and reminded them that violations of the Civil Defense Act (民防法) and the Implementing Regulation on Air-raid Practice (防空演習實施辦法) could result in fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.
