TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Scorching temperatures have gripped Taiwan, with the Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署, CWA) issuing high-temperature warnings for 18 counties and cities on Tuesday (July 16). Taipei City is expected to experience a sweltering 43 degrees Celsius, with the mercury predicted to rise to 44 degrees on Friday.

According to the CWA, New Taipei City faces a red alert on Tuesday, indicating a high probability of extreme temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County are under orange alerts, with temperatures likely to hit 36 degrees. Keelung City, Miaoli County, Yilan County, and Hualien County are on yellow alerts and should remain cautious.

Afternoon thunderstorms are likely to develop due to the heat, particularly in areas south of Chiayi. The CWA advises residents to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and avoid heatstroke as the intense summer heat persists.

Starting in mid-July, atmospheric conditions from the South China Sea to the eastern Philippines are becoming conducive to tropical system development. The CWA highlights the need for close monitoring of these potential tropical disturbances due to their dynamic nature.

Residents should prepare for the heat and stay updated on weather developments. The CWA emphasizes the importance of vigilance as the summer progresses, with potential weather shifts on the horizon.
