TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) legislator Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) on Friday (Aug. 30) revealed that there was no discussion of assigning an acting party chairman during the TPP's central committee meeting.

His statement came after authorities searched the residence and office of TPP chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) at the Taiwan Glass Building (台玻大樓).

This action, part of an ongoing investigation into the Core Pacific City (京華城) corruption case, involved personnel from the Taiwan Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) and the Agency Against Corruption, Ministry of Justice (廉政署).

The search lasted four hours. Ko then reported to the Agency Against Corruption as a defendant, while his wife, Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), appeared as a witness. In the afternoon, the TPP convened an emergency central committee meeting and formed a crisis response team.

Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌), a TPP legislator, stated that Ko had announced a leave of absence the previous day and was searched early this morning.

He remarked that the TPP did not wish to speculate on the relationship between the events but demanded an explanation from the ruling authorities regarding the search of their central party office.

Huang condemned rumors that Ko was not home during the search, questioning the source of the misinformation.

The TPP's emergency meeting included Secretary-General Chou Yu-hsiu (周榆修) and central committee members Wu Chun-cheng (吳春城), Chang Chi-kai (張啓楷), Mai Yu-zhen (麥玉珍), Feng Chi-yen (馮啟彥), Chiang Ho-shu (江和樹), and Li Kuo-chang (李國璋).
