TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tien Wu (吳田玉), CEO of ASE (日月光半導體), a semiconductor company, emphasized Taiwan's significant role in the AI industry during a pre-show press conference for SEMICON Taiwan 2024 (國際半導體展) on Monday (Sep. 2).

Speaking to the media, Wu urged semiconductor professionals to collaborate across sectors, choose suitable partners, and follow the correct development directions to secure success.

Wu highlighted Taiwan's critical position in global chip design, wafer foundry, and packaging testing. He stressed the need for collaboration in materials, equipment, and memory. He stated that choosing the right partners, the correct development direction, and closely cooperating with upstream and downstream sectors are keys to success.

He noted that semiconductor solutions require a multifaceted approach involving chips, packaging, materials, systems, and equipment. Wu remarked that no standard exists globally; different regions have diverse plans or opinions.

Wu also discussed AI's broader impacts, asserting it affects the economy, politics, and supply chain restructuring. He identified three future challenges for the semiconductor industry: the accelerating demand for software outpacing hardware manufacturing capabilities, supply chain reorganization, and geopolitical variables.

Wu's insights at SEMICON Taiwan 2024 underscore the importance of strategic partnerships and adaptability in the evolving semiconductor landscape.
