TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) announced Monday (Sep. 2) that the recently released rental statistics for university areas reflect actual transaction data, distinguishing them from unofficial statistics based on asking prices. The MOI aims to enhance market transparency and provide valuable reference points for students seeking rental accommodations.

On Aug. 15, the MOI published rental statistics for administrative districts surrounding 140 universities nationwide. The data, derived from 478,000 compelling rent subsidy cases as of the end of March, covers three common rental types: entire apartments, independent suites, and shared suites. The MOI emphasized that unofficial statistics often rely on rental advertisements, which may not reflect actual market conditions.

A real estate company also released its rental statistics. However, the MOI pointed out that these figures often represent asking prices, which can deviate from market conditions. The MOI stated that the official data comes from rent subsidy information and reflects more accurate rental conditions.

While subject to income and asset thresholds, the rent subsidy data covers most of the general rental market. The MOI noted that the rental statistics encompass the majority of typical rental situations.

Looking ahead, the MOI plans to expand the scope of subsidies to better capture the rental market and provide more accurate statistics. This initiative aims to offer valuable guidance to those needing rental housing.
