TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Environment (MOE, 環境部) launched a collaborative project on Tuesday (Sept. 3) at the Alangyi Historic Trail (琅嶠卑南古道). The initiative, involving two local communities, plans to host monthly environmental education tours starting in September.

Each tour will include ten groups, totaling 300 participants, who will help clean up beach litter and foreign debris. During a press conference that day, Environmental Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啓明) highlighted the trail's hidden beauty; however, it is often threatened by ocean currents and tourist litter.

In July and August, the MOE negotiated with local governments in Pingtung (屏東) and Taitung (台東) counties and related community development associations. These discussions aimed to ensure a coordinated effort once the trail reopened.

Peng explained that after sorting, local township offices will assist in the disposal of collected beach litter. Some recyclables will enter reuse systems to become useful items like clothing. Additionally, the two communities will offer discounts on guide fees or souvenirs, while the ministry will provide up to 30,000 green points per group as an incentive.

Noting the ministry's limited manpower, Peng emphasized the importance of environmental education in improving conditions.
