TAIPEI (TVBS News) — KFC (肯德基) announced on Monday (Sept. 30) that it closed its Taipei National Taiwan University (NTU, 台灣大學) branch after 21 years of operation, citing overall business operations and commercial district planning as reasons for the closure.

In a press release, KFC expressed gratitude to its customers for their support over the years, and encouraged customers to visit the "KFC-Taipei Fuxing South Restaurant" for their dining needs.

The NTU branch, located opposite the main gate of the university, served many student customers in the bustling Gongguan (公館) commercial district. Some online users speculated that rent issues contributed to the decision to close the branch.

KFC opened its first branch in Taiwan on April 16, 1985, in Ximending (西門町). Currently, Taipei hosts 26 KFC branches. The fast-food restaurant chain plans to continue expanding its physical stores and steadily increase the number of restaurants.

KFC operates 17 "Digital Future Stores" (數位未來店) in Taipei, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, aiming to expand further to enhance customer's dining experience,
