TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City has reached a significant milestone with the signing of the "Nanjichang Neighborhood Unit 3" (南機場單元3) public urban renewal project contract on Monday (Sept. 30), marking the first successful public urban renewal and investment attraction case in the neighborhood.

The April 3 earthquake caused severe damage to the Nanjichang residential area. The latest development would invest approximately NT$3.2 billion and have a total sales amount of around NT$7 billion, said the officials.

In an opening remark, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) emphasized the importance of this breakthrough, noting that units 4 and 5 have also met the 75% acceptance threshold for public urban renewal. The city plans to hold community briefings in October to expedite the renewal process.

Mayor Chiang highlighted the significance of the Unit 3 signing ceremony, calling it a major milestone after years of effort. He praised the area's excellent living conditions, proximity to the MRT Wanda Line and LG03 station, and comprehensive educational and social welfare facilities.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Ssu-chuan (李四川), who also serves as chairman of the National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center (HURC, 住都中心), stated that the signing of Unit 3 holds great significance. If all goes well, they expect the project to be completed within three to four years.

The Unit 3 site spans approximately 3,898 square meters and will feature four 14-story above-ground and four-story underground reinforced concrete residential buildings. Cheng Hsiao-chih (鄭小池), the representative of the residences, noted that home owners have long awaited this day despite initial opposition and reluctance to engage in discussions.
