TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) prompted Taiwan to halt work and school in all 22 counties and cities on Wednesday (Oct. 2), with both foodpanda and Uber Eats suspending their delivery services nationwide from midnight.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) upgraded the typhoon to a severe category on Tuesday, with maximum gusts near the center reaching level 17.

Uber Eats stated that it is complying with the Executive Yuan's and local governments' directives, advising delivery partners to stay offline until operations resume, and apologized to consumers for potential delays due to adverse weather and road conditions.

Foodpanda emphasized the importance of delivery partner safety, explaining that they would follow government instructions to suspend services during the affected period. The platform stopped delivery services from midnight and will adjust based on local government announcements.

However, takeout services where consumers can pick up the food themselves remain unaffected, and foodpanda advised consumers in non-affected areas to place orders in advance.

Residents should stay informed about further updates and prepare for potential disruptions. The situation underscores the challenges posed by severe weather and the importance of safety for all involved.
