TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) emphasized on Tuesday (Oct. 1) the seriousness of Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) stating, "a Typhoon day off is not for fun. There is a real possibility of disaster."

"The route of Typhoon Krathon is unique, so take precautions, and remember, safety first," Hsiao continued.

Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) is set to make landfall in southwestern Taiwan on Thursday (Oct. 3), prompting officials to suspend work and classes across the island.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) warned on Tuesday (Oct. 1) that although the storm's intensity has weakened, it could still bring gusts up to 16 or 17 levels upon landfall.

Hsiao shared on Facebook that a young boy in her building asked if she was responsible for declaring typhoon holidays, to which she firmly clarified she was not.

The government has urged residents to take necessary precautions and stay indoors to ensure safety. Typhoon Krathon's unusual path has raised concerns about potential damage, making it crucial for everyone to remain vigilant.

As Taiwan braces for the storm, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents should stay updated through official channels for further announcements and safety instructions.
