TAINAN (TVBS News)—Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) Xinying District Office reported on Friday (Oct. 4) that nearly 100,000 households remain without electricity after the storm's powerful winds and heavy rain knocked out power to over 270,000 homes.

Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) has wreaked havoc in southern Taiwan, causing massive power outages in Kaohsiung (高雄) and Pingtung (屏東).

The typhoon made landfall in Kaohsiung's Siaogang (小港) at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday. Maximum gusts reached up to level 17, severely impacting the region.

As of 9 a.m. Friday, 270,544 households experienced power outages, 171,222 homes were restored later, and 99,322 remained without electricity. The district office has mobilized resources to aid in power restoration efforts.

Two line crews, consisting of 10 engineers, along with two aerial lifts, two boom trucks, and one engineering vehicle, have been dispatched to Fongshan (鳳山) in Kaohsiung to expedite the restoration process.
