TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will embark on her first European visit since leaving office, traveling to the Czech Republic and other countries for eight days starting Oct. 12.

This marks her inaugural overseas trip post-presidency. Sources revealed that Tsai plans to attend the Forum 2000 (公元兩千論壇) in the Czech Republic, where she will deliver a 10 to 15-minute speech without a Q&A session.

Tsai's office stated they will formally announce the itinerary once finalized, maintaining discretion about the schedule. Reports indicate she will travel with "high-level courtesy," becoming the first former Taiwanese president to do so.

After leaving public office in 2004, Tsai attended the Forum 2000 and, during her presidency, frequently addressed the event online.

The Czech Republic stands as one of Taiwan's key allies in Europe. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan donated masks and other protective materials to aid the Czech Republic. Czech President Petr Pavel, elected in early 2023, became the first European leader to speak with a Taiwanese president, expressing his eagerness to meet Tsai.

Observers will watch closely for any developments from Tsai's visit, which could further strengthen Taiwan-Czech relations.

Her participation in the Forum 2000 highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts and the significance of Taiwan's partnerships in Europe.
