TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory on Tuesday (Oct. 8) for Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Yilan County. The northeast monsoon, coupled with abundant moisture, is causing short-duration heavy rain in these areas.

Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) reported that northern Taiwan and central mountainous regions experienced scattered rainfall this morning, with low temperatures ranging from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius. He predicted occasional rain in the northern and eastern parts of Taiwan over the next two days, with northern Taiwan becoming noticeably cooler and wetter.

The Pacific region's tropical depression is expected to develop into this year's 19th typhoon, Barijat, on Tuesday. However, the CWA's latest path projection indicates the typhoon will move north-northeast, posing no threat to Taiwan.

Wu also mentioned that on National Day, the northeast monsoon will become drier, resulting in partly cloudy to sunny conditions across most regions. There remains a slight chance of isolated afternoon showers in the eastern half and mountainous areas. By Friday, the northeast monsoon will weaken, leading to a slight rise in daytime temperatures.

Looking ahead, from Saturday to next Monday, moisture from the east will gradually increase. Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy to sunny, with occasional localized showers in the eastern half and afternoon mountainous areas. By next Sunday and Monday, northern and eastern regions, along with afternoon mountainous areas, may experience occasional localized showers, with temperatures slightly rising.
