TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) announced on Monday (Oct. 14) that the government plans to invest NT$222 billion next year to promote five key industries, including the "Taiwan AI Action Plan 2.0" (台灣AI行動計畫2.0).

Cheng said the initiative aims to support the development of data, talent, computing power, and applications while fostering Taiwan's sovereign AI ecosystem. Cheng outlined three AI development goals, including  seeking to deepen democracy and human rights protection, ensuring AI applications do not harm the democratic system.

The second goal focuses on addressing societal needs by utilizing AI to solve social problems and enhance well-being. The third goal aims to promote equality, prevent the widening of developmental gaps, and support industries and workers impacted by the transition.

More importantly, Cheng mentioned that the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位發展部) and the National Development Council (國家發展委員會) will collaborate to implement the "Strengthening Investment in AI Startups Program," (加強投資AI新創實施方案) injecting NT$10 billion to drive innovation in AI applications and services.
