TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Defense Minister Wellington Li-Hsiung Koo (顧立雄) on Thursday (Oct. 17) assured that the controversial youth consent form is not for military use and is open to abolition if concerns persist.

Recent reports have sparked parental anxiety over the "Wartime Youth Service Consent Form" (戰時狀態青年服勤同意書) issued by a high school. The document linked to the "All-out Defense Mobilization Readiness Act" (全民防衛動員準備法) suggests student participation in school youth services.

Koo emphasized that the consent form does not involve military duties, focuses on disaster preparedness, and aims to enhance students' self-rescue and mutual aid abilities.

Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀) also apologized during a legislative session on Wednesday and confirmed that students would not be sent to the battlefield. He explained that the primary role of student service is to assist communities in providing evacuation guidance during natural disasters.
