TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) on Thursday (Oct. 17) underscored the nation's unwavering claim over the Diaoyutai Islands (釣魚台列嶼), asserting them as an indisputable part of its territory. The ministry also vowed to closely monitor developments regarding the islands.

The Japan Coast Guard 11th Regional Headquarters (日本第11管區海上保安本部) reported on Wednesday that Chinese coast guard vessels had intruded into the waters around the Diaoyutai Islands for two consecutive days. This marked the 39th time this year.

According to Kyodo News, two Chinese coast guard ships entered the area on Oct. 15, prompting Japan to accuse China of territorial intrusion. One of these vessels departed at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 16, but another soon entered the area.

Taiwan's MOFA reiterated its commitment to maintaining sovereignty over the islands and safeguarding fishermen's rights. The ministry highlighted the frequent presence of Chinese coast guard ships in recent years, which has destabilized the East China Sea.

Taiwan urged all parties to cease unilateral actions that could escalate regional tensions.

The MOFA called for disputes to be resolved through rational and peaceful means to ensure regional peace and stability. As tensions remain high, the ministry's pledge to manage the issue diligently underscores Taiwan's dedication to protecting its territorial claims and promoting regional harmony.
