TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) announced on Friday (Oct. 18) that Frank Wu (吳豐山) will take over as chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF, 海基會). Wu's extensive experience in the media and previous roles as a minister without portfolio and a member of the Control Yuan (監察院) make him a strategic choice for this critical position.

The council praised Wu for his broad vision and exceptional academic background, which they believe will provide unique insights into national development. They expressed confidence in his ability to lead the foundation alongside SEF Secretary-General Luo Wen-jia (羅文嘉) to ensure the smooth continuation of its affairs.

The SEF, tasked with cross-strait negotiations, exchanges, and services, faces significant responsibilities. The council noted that the foundation has expanded its various exchange services in recent years, highlighting the heavy workload it manages.

Looking ahead, the council emphasized its commitment to closely collaborating with the foundation in alignment with President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) cross-strait policies and Taiwan's mainstream public opinion. The focus will remain on maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait while cautiously promoting equal, dignified, and orderly cross-strait exchanges.
