TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The head of foodpanda remarked on Friday (Oct. 18) that its merger with Uber Eats still awaits the Fair Trade Commission's (公平會) decision, and expressed gratitude for the input from various government departments.

Eric Huang's (黃逸華) comment came two days after Labor Minister Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) officially communicated the ministry's objections to the merger of Taiwan's two largest food delivery platforms to the commission.

The general manager noted that the merger is still under review, with the commission gathering opinions from all sides. "The company's current attitude is to continue to maintain the best possible business performance," he told local media.

Uber Eats announced plans to acquire foodpanda's Taiwan operations on May 14. The commission has emphasized that its review will focus on market concentration, pricing power post-merger, synergy effects, and overall market efficiency.

Huang also addressed the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' (MOTC, 交通部) proposed amendments to delivery platform fee regulations. The draft remains unclear, but he assured that 2024's delivery fees will not exceed those of 2023.
