TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Presidential Office (總統府) announced Monday (Oct. 21) that Lin Hsin-I (林信義), the current senior advisor to the president and chairman of Taiwania Capital (台杉投資管理顧問公司), will serve as the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) representative.
Lin's experience includes three successful participations in APEC meetings, according to Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧). President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has tasked Lin with articulating Taiwan's policies at APEC to enhance the nation's visibility and significance.
The 2024 APEC meeting will take place in Peru from Nov. 10 to 16.
The Executive Yuan (行政院) has also appointed Minister without Portfolio Yang Jen-ni (楊珍妮) and National Development Council Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM). Initially, President Lai intended for former Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) to represent Taiwan, but Peru likely did not approve his participation due to pressure from China.
