TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Health (北市衛生局) reported a new local dengue fever case in Zhongzheng District (中正區) on Monday (Oct. 28). The patient, a woman in her 50s, began exhibiting symptoms on Oct. 24 and received a diagnosis on Oct. 26. Health authorities have yet to determine the source of her infection, as she neither traveled abroad nor visited dengue control areas in New Taipei City (新北市).
The department revealed that, as of Oct. 27, the city has recorded 46 confirmed dengue cases in 2024, with three being local transmissions. Genetic sequencing has linked cases in Wenshan (文山區) and Datong (大同區) districts to a cluster involving Xindian (新店) and Zhonghe (中和區) in New Taipei City. The infection source for the Zhongzheng District case remains unclear.
The Zhongzheng District Office (中正區公所) convened a district-level response meeting to initiate cross-agency prevention measures a day earlier. They launched a community cleanup day to survey mosquito density, eliminate breeding grounds, and conduct environmental spraying to combat the spread of dengue.
The department has warned residents about the increased risk of mosquito breeding due to recent rains from Typhoon Kong-Rey (康芮). Officials urged the public to remove standing water to prevent dengue from spreading in their communities.
