TAIPEI (TVBS News) — WeatherRisk (天氣風險公司) warned on Monday (Oct. 28) that Typhoon Kong-rey (康芮) could intensify into a severe typhoon, potentially prompting typhoon holidays across Taiwan, especially on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
The Central Weather Administration (氣象署) reported the typhoon's center at 2 p.m. at 16.8 degrees north latitude and 128.7 degrees east longitude, moving northwest at 7 kph. It is estimated that 12 counties and cities face a more than 90% chance of being affected by the typhoon's periphery.
The CWA also noted that if Typhoon Kong-rey makes landfall, it would be the first typhoon to hit Taiwan in November since Typhoon Gilda (吉達) in 1967, marking a 57-year gap.
The CWA also advised that temperatures will range between 21-30 degrees Celcius over the next week. The northeastern monsoon will bring cooler weather to northern and northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday, urging residents to dress warmly and carry rain gear.
As Typhoon Kong-rey approaches, the CWA urged residents to stay informed about weather updates and prepare for possible disruptions.
