CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — Taiwan's military launched the second day of its significant ground forces exercise, "Chang Tai 19" (長泰19號操演), on Tuesday (Oct. 29) with unscripted drills. The 6th Army Command (陸軍第六軍團指揮部) is conducting the exercise, which began on Oct. 28 and will continue until Nov. 1. It involves over 4,000 troops.
During the exercise, chemical troops released smoke on roads to conceal tactical maneuvers and avoid drone detection. Resolving tank malfunctions also tested soldiers' adaptability. Moreover, the control headquarters switched attack and defense roles and issued new scenarios at 2 a.m. to enhance nighttime training, making the drills more combat-realistic.
The exercise features the 586th Armored Brigade (中部十軍團裝甲586旅) and the 333 Mechanized Infantry Brigade (南部八軍團機步333旅), deploying more than 100 tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, and wheeled vehicles. The unscripted drills run 24 hours a day and include nighttime training, continuing the spirit of the "Han Kuang 40" live-fire exercise (漢光40號實兵演習).
