TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Typhoon Kong-rey (康芮) is approaching Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) stated on Wednesday (Oct. 30) that the storm's intensifying winds and rain might lead to a typhoon day off, though local governments will make the final decision.

CWA forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) said Typhoon Kong-rey is strengthening and its storm circle is expanding, with the most significant impact expected from Wednesday night through the early hours of Nov. 1.

The typhoon and its outer circulation will bring noticeable rain to northern and eastern Taiwan on Thursday and Friday, with heavy to torrential downpours likely in eastern regions, Huang added.

The rainfall is expected to gradually ease by Friday morning. Despite the typhoon moving away over the weekend, the northeast monsoon will still affect Taiwan, bringing cooler weather and brief showers to the north and northeast. Eastern, southeastern, and central-southern mountainous regions may experience sporadic rain, while other areas will remain mostly cloudy.

Residents should stay informed about potential school and work closures and prepare for severe weather conditions.
