TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced on Wednesday (Nov. 13) that the Executive Yuan will devise more robust strategies within a month to enhance cooperation with the U.S. in trade, defense, technology, and public exchanges.

Premier Cho's statement came after Donald Trump's election. He stressed the need for stronger bilateral relations and highlighted the challenges of safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty and national security amid global political shifts.

He noted that Taiwan's presidential election earlier this year marked the first democratic victory of 2024, while the recent U.S. election represented a significant democratic outcome. As President-elect Trump assembles his new team, Cho mentioned that Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) would lead a task force to strengthen engagement with the U.S. following the government transition.

In the Indo-Pacific region, Cho stated, Taiwan must shoulder more self-defense responsibilities and align with democratic allies to maintain peace and stability. He also stressed the government's duty to its citizens and the world, warning that any missteps, particularly in energy policy, could cause global concern.
