TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Land Management Agency (國土管理署) under the Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) announced on Wednesday (Nov. 13) that the new housing loan program for young homebuyers (新青案政策) will continue until 2026, after which the government will end subsidies.

In 2023, the Ministry of Finance (MOF, 財政部) introduced the Youth Housing Loan 2.0, which increased loan amounts, extended grace periods and lending terms, and offered a 1.5 basis point interest subsidy. Wu Hsin-hsiu's (吳欣修) remarks, delivered during a legislative session, clarified the program's timeline and future financial commitments.

While designed to ease mortgage burdens, the initiative inadvertently attracted investors, contributing to persistently high property prices. Wu emphasized that the new policy uses identity criteria as a threshold, allowing all eligible applicants to apply, similar to earlier home purchase and renovation subsidies.

Wu explained that the new housing loan policy will run until July 2026, with no further subsidies planned beyond that date. He noted the government will determine future expenditures based on the MOF's statistics on borrowers as their grace periods expire.
