TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) reiterated its commitment to unbiased recruitment and promotion practices on Thursday (Nov. 14) following allegations of discrimination. According to a recent Forbes report, a group of current and former employees has accused the company of "anti-American" bias. The complaints claim TSMC favors employees proficient in Mandarin, creating barriers for English speakers.

The plaintiffs allege that TSMC conducts meetings and distributes business materials primarily in Mandarin, forcing English-speaking employees to rely on translation services. In response, TSMC has stated it does not comment on ongoing litigation but emphasized its respect for diversity and belief in fair employment opportunities. The company also highlighted its provision of multiple channels for employees to voice concerns.

TSMC plans to commence mass production at its first Arizona wafer plant in early 2025. Rumors about a December completion ceremony have circulated, but TSMC declined to comment. The company assured that any public events would be officially announced. All vendors have yet to receive formal invitations from TSMC.
