Taiwan stock opens with sharp drop (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market opened at 22,692 points on Monday (Nov. 18) and experienced fluctuations, dropping over 100 points within 10 minutes. The index reached a low of 22,597 points, falling below the monthly average.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) decreased by NT$10 to NT$1,025, reflecting broader market concerns. Other notable movements included Hon Hai (鴻海), which fell NT$1.5 to NT$205.5, and MediaTek (聯發科), which also saw a NT$10 drop to NT$1,260. Largan Precision (大立光) declined NT$10 to NT$2,410, while Delta Electronics (台達電) rose NT$1.5 to NT$387.5, offering a rare positive note amid the downturn.

The decline in the Taiwan market follows a challenging session for U.S. stocks last Friday. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's remarks led to speculation about a slower pace of interest rate cuts. Also, the post-election rally associated with former President Donald Trump has faded, contributing to the largest single-day drop in over two months for U.S. markets.

Investors now turn their attention to Nvidia's (輝達) upcoming earnings announcement, scheduled for Nov. 20 in the U.S. Analysts and traders alike will closely monitor Nvidia's performance and projections, hoping for a positive influence on global markets.
