TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC Bus, 大都會客運) and CitiAir Bus (大有巴士) were fined NT$90,000 each on Monday (Nov. 18) for management failures that contributed to a collision in Taipei, causing one fatality and multiple injuries.

The Taipei City Public Transportation Office's (台北市公運處) announcement came after a collision occurred on Sunday when two buses, Metropolitan Transport's Route 49 and CitiAir Bus Route 212, collided, resulting in one pedestrian's death and injuries to 15 passengers and drivers.

Police have charged both drivers, identified as Chen and Hsieh, with negligent homicide. Prosecutors released Chen on NT$100,000 bail and Hsieh on NT$300,000 bail Sunday evening. In a press statement, MTC expressed condolences for the deceased and assured compensation for the injured passengers' medical expenses, aiming for their swift recovery.

The company emphasized that Chen, an employee for 13 years, had a commendable record and worked within an 8-hour shift recently, with his last day off on Saturday. After assisting with bail procedures, the company granted him leave and psychological support to aid the investigation.
