TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) plans to travel to Canada on Nov. 20 to attend the 2024 Halifax International Security Forum (HISF), her office announced Monday (Nov. 18). Tsai will deliver a keynote speech emphasizing Taiwan's commitment to democracy and freedom and its ongoing collaboration with the international community for global stability and prosperity.

Tsai Shu-ching (蔡舒景), Tsai's office spokesperson, highlighted the significance of Tsai's participation, noting her receipt of the John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service in 2021, where Tsai stated that democracy and freedom are the best medals for Taiwan on the world stage, proving Taiwan's ability to contribute positively to the global community.

HISF will occur from Nov. 22 to Nov. 24, bringing together democratic nations to discuss security issues and strengthen strategic cooperation. This year's theme, "New Eras Arrive," has attracted hundreds of experts and dignitaries across dozens of countries from defense and strategic security sectors.

The forum fosters closer strategic collaboration among democratic nations to address the world's most pressing security challenges. Moreover, the forum serves as a critical venue for reinforcing alliances and strategic partnerships in the face of evolving global threats.
